About this work
A hand-colored lithograph shows a man in profile-turned frontal pose, wearing a white shirt, a dark blue neckerchief, a light metal or shell necklace, and a headdress of striped feathers above a white headband. His face has green paint over one eye and dark paint on the cheek, and his arms are folded across his chest. The caption below reads "Caa-tou-see, an Ojibway," and the print is attributed to Charles Bird King, dated 1836.
