About this work

A large formal banquet hall is filled with guests in elaborate 18th-century dress gathered around long dining tables beneath rows of crystal chandeliers and floral garlands hanging from the ceiling. Musicians in red coats play from a gallery on the right, and spectators watch from balconies along the walls. The painting is attributed to Martin van Meytens and dated 1763.
