About this work

A hand-colored engraving showing a hilltop fort rising above a steep rocky cliff, with crenellated walls and domed towers silhouetted against a pale sky. Trees, a winding path, figures and a bullock cart occupy the lower foreground. The inscription identifies the view as the Fort of Gwalior from the north-west, drawn on the spot and engraved by William Hodges, published in April 1796 by J. Wells.
