About this work

This mezzotint-style engraving shows a bust-length portrait of Peter I within an oval frame, wearing armour, a fur-trimmed mantle, and a jeweled collar. Below the frame lie a royal crown, a scepter, and a sword on a cushion, flanked by a laurel wreath. The Latin inscription around the oval names Petrus Alexewitz, Czar et Magnus Dux Moscovia, and the print is credited to Godfrey Kneller as the source painter.
