About this work
A muscular, nearly nude male figure leans forcefully against a dark pillar within a columned interior, his body twisted in strain. Loose, sketchy brushwork and dark outlines define the figure, with a bright, dissolved background of foliage and light beyond the columns. The work is titled Simson Breaks the Pillars of the Temple, by Max Slevogt, dated 1906.
