About this work
This engraving shows a theatrical landscape with a large natural stone arch framed by tall trees on either side, leading toward a distant view. Above, a winged figure floats beside a sun chariot drawn by horses across the clouds. The print is attributed to François Chauveau and dated 1651, and its title identifies it as a set design for the prologue of Corneille's Andromède.
