About this work
This painting of Le Pont-Neuf et la Cité, Paris, is attributed to Giuseppe Canella and dated 1832. It shows a multi-arched stone bridge spanning a broad river, with barges and a floating laundry house moored along the quay and a small rowing boat on the water. Crowds of pedestrians, horse-drawn carriages and market activity fill the street on the left, while a dense row of façades and a domed building rise along the far bank.
