About this work
A winged youth crowned with ivy sits on a pale stone tomb, his head bowed and one hand resting on his chest, beside a gilded torch. Behind him a cemetery with cypress trees and a distant hill is visible, and an inscription is carved on the tall stone at left. Der Genius des Todes is a work by Albert Anker, dated 1890.
