About this work

A hand-coloured lithographic view shows the Louvre fortress as it appeared in 1380 under Charles V, with crenellated walls, round and conical towers, and steep slate roofs rising above the riverbank. Barges and a small rowing boat float on the Seine in the foreground, while horses and carriages move along the quay beside the stone embankment. The labelled print is attributed to Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer and dated 1380.
