About this work

Two Native American figures sit against a plastered wall: a shirtless man in green fringed leggings works on a bow, tying or stringing its cord, while a young woman in a fringed cream jacket and red trousers holds a bundle of arrows and watches him. The seated pair rests on a fur rug, and the composition is painted in warm earth tones. The work is titled The Broken Bow, created by Joseph Henry Sharp in 1912.
