About this work
An engraved portrait shows a man in period dress seated at a small writing desk, quill in hand, before a tall window opening onto trees and clouds. Stacked books rest on the desk beside him, and the upholstered armchair is rendered in fine hatched lines. The print is dated 1761 and is attributed to Louis Carrogis de Carmontelle, with the engraving credited to Delafosse.
