This 1515 panel by Lucas Cranach the Elder, titled Friedrich the Wise in Veneration of the Apocalyptical Mother of God, shows a kneeling man in a dark fur-trimmed robe with hands clasped in prayer. The Virgin Mary, crowned and wearing a red mantle, holds the Christ Child on a gold ground framed by winged cherubs in blue clouds, while a bearded figure in green and white reads from a red book at left.
