About this work
This painting, titled The Madonna Enthroned and attributed to Ludovico Brea, shows the Virgin seated on a gilded throne holding the infant Christ, who nurses at her breast while holding a red book. Two angels flank the throne, one playing a flute and the other partly visible at the left, and a dated Latin inscription runs along the lower edge. The panel is set in an arched frame decorated with gold stars on blue.
