About this work

An engraved interior shows visitors in 19th-century dress moving through a crowded exhibition hall, where paintings in gilded frames hang on the walls and busts are placed on pedestals. A large crystal chandelier and a balcony with a railing frame the scene, and the figures include men in top hats and women in shawls and bonnets. The print is titled Salon de 1849, aux Tuileries, by Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer, dated 1849.
