About this work

This black and white print shows the Place de la Bastille in 1830, viewed from the Arsenal station along a waterway. A stone bridge with an arched tunnel crosses the canal, while a loaded barge rests on the left and wooden rafts drift through the water. A tall timber scaffolding tower and several multi-storey buildings line the skyline under a heavy, cloudy sky. The work is credited to Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer and dated 1830.
