About this work
This engraved view shows a covered timber gallery with shopfronts, where well-dressed pedestrians in top hats, bonnets and long gowns stroll beneath a lattice of wooden roof beams. Signs above the shops advertise a tabletier and a milliner, and display windows hold vases, hats and sculpture. The print is credited to Theodor Josef Hubert Hoffbauer and dated 1825, depicting the Galeries de bois at the Palais-Royal in Paris.
