About this work
A pen and grey wash study on aged paper shows a nude young man in a dynamic stance, with one arm extended and a fabric swirling around his body. The figure gazes upward, and the modelling of the musculature and drapery is built from soft tonal shading. This study for a young man dancing was made by Giovanni Battista Gaulli in 1680.
