About this work

A seated male nude is rendered in graphite on paper, leaning on a stone pedestal with one arm extended and the other leg stretched out. Hatched shading defines the musculature and the cast shadow on the block. An inscription in German script appears at the upper left and is signed J. F. Overbeck.
