About this work
The painting shows the muscular nude hero Hercules, wearing a lion skin, grasping the horns of a white bull that bleeds from its mouth while two women attend nearby, one seated in a yellow gown and one standing in a red mantle. The sky is pale and the surface shows extensive craquelure.
