About this work

A hand-colored woodcut-style illustration shows a fully armored knight standing on a grassy mound, holding a tall banner with three black lions on gold. Beside him rests a heraldic shield with the same lions and a crested helmet topped with a peacock plume, while a red and white saltire shield appears at right.
