About this work
This 1920 drawing by El Lissitzky shows a tall diagonal steel lattice structure rising from a solid base block, with a small seated figure on a projecting platform and a large blank panel at the top bearing the word "ПРОЛЕТАРИИ" in block letters. Pale washes and sharp cast shadows give the composition a stark, architectural character.
