About this work

Henry Scott Tuke's painting The Sunbathers shows a nude young man reclining in a sunlit meadow of grass and small white flowers, one arm stretched out across the grass. A second young man lies face down in the lower right corner, partly hidden by the foliage. The loose, painterly brushwork renders the warm light across the figures and the surrounding greenery.
