About this work
This watercolor and pencil drawing, titled Sheik Hussein of Gebel Tor and His Son by John Frederick Lewis, shows two standing men in traditional eastern dress. The older man on the left has a grey beard, a white turban and a red-and-white striped robe under a dark cloak, with a dagger tucked into his belt. The younger man on the right wears a white turban, a yellow robe and a red sash, and gazes off to the side against a soft brown wash.
