About this work
A pencil drawing shows a section of Mount Vesuvius rising above a foreground of shrubs, trees, and a small domed pavilion. A rising plume of smoke drifts from the volcano's summit across the upper sky. The inscription at the top reads that the view is from the loggia at the Villa, Portici, dated August 22, and the work is attributed to John Robert Cozens.
