About this work
This painting shows a riverside scene with a thatched cottage beside a ruined Gothic arch, partly hidden by ivy and trees. Figures work along the bank, including a man tending a net from a rowing boat and a woman standing near laundry hung to dry, while a small boat drifts on the water at left.
