About this work
This painting, titled Nordafrikanisches Reiterlager by Alexander von Bensa, shows a group of horses and riders gathered on sandy ground beneath a pale, cloud-flecked sky. A dark horse with an ornate red-patterned saddle cloth stands at the center, while a chestnut horse and attendants in light and dark robes occupy the right side, with tents or dunes behind them. The loose brushwork and warm earth tones give the scene an open, outdoor atmosphere.
