About this work
A large crowd fills a cobblestone waterfront street as uniformed soldiers march with drummers and a mounted officer, while sailing ships and a steamboat fill the harbor behind them. Spectators wave from balconies and the street, and families embrace and children reach toward the marchers. This 1862 print by Louis Lang, titled Return of the 69th (Irish) Regiment, N.Y.S.M. from the Seat of War, shows the regiment's homecoming.
