About this work

This Japanese woodblock print shows a busy waterside market scene with men handling large fish, wooden crates and baskets, and figures washing or tending to one another near a tiled building. A red vertical cartouche on the right carries Japanese characters naming the Tōkaidō road series, attributed to Katsushika Hokusai.
