About this work

This hand-coloured aquatint shows a lighthouse with attached buildings on a grassy clifftop above crashing waves, with a flock of sheep grazing near a stone wall and gate. Seagulls wheel over the sea, and a distant sailing ship crosses the horizon. The work is titled Light-house, Isle of Portland, drawn and engraved by William Daniell and published in 1825.
