About this work
This hand-coloured aquatint shows Dover Castle from its elevated walls, with a gatehouse and crenellated towers on the left and a curving coastline and town below on the right. Several sailing ships and a steamship with smoke move across the sea, and small figures stand on the walkway. The work is by William Daniell, dated 1824.
