About this work
This hand-coloured engraving shows Sunderland Pier in County Durham, with masted sailing ships moored along the harbour, a lighthouse on the left, and a small rowboat with two oarsmen on the open water. Pedestrians stroll along the stone quay in period dress. The print was drawn and engraved by William Daniell and published in London in 1822.
