About this work
This hand-coloured aquatint shows a rocky cave entrance opening onto a still inlet, with several small rowing boats moored at the water's edge and groups of figures on the shore. Layered cliffs rise on either side, with a small stone hut at the right and two figures standing on the summit. The print is titled Entrance to the Cave of Smowe, drawn and engraved by William Daniell and dated 1820.
