About this work

A painted scene shows a richly dressed male ruler in blue and pink drapery facing a female figure in a gold-trimmed blue gown and plumed helmet, surrounded by armored warriors, women with spears and shields, horses, and a red banner beside a draped tent. The composition is set on open ground with trees, a distant hillside, and a cloudy evening sky.
