About this work

The painting shows the dead Christ reclining on a stone ledge with his body partly draped in white cloth, while the Virgin Mary kneels beside him in a blue mantle and orange headscarf, her hand resting on his arm. A dark wooden cross rises behind them against a stormy sky with a patch of blue.
