About this work

An engraved view of the harbor of Sète in Languedoc, seen from the sea beyond the isolated jetty. Rough waves and a dark, billowing sky dominate the foreground, where a large sailing ship heels in the wind and smaller boats with flags struggle through the surf. The town and its hillside fortification stretch along the horizon, and the print is attributed to Joseph Vernet as its original painter.
