About this work

A preparatory drawing in brown wash and white heightening shows a nude female figure standing beside a seated figure with a fan-like object, while a long white serpent-like tail coils at the lower right. The rocky, coral-filled setting is framed by a dense decorative border of interlaced bands and roundels, with the paper partly flaked at the edges.
