About this work

A monochrome reproduction shows two women seated close together in a dimly lit interior, one turned away with her hair pinned up and the other resting her cheek on her hand while gazing down. Playing cards and a small round object lie on the table in the foreground, suggesting the card reading of the title. This print of Émile Bernard's 1928 work was reproduced in the book Emile Bernard the Initiator.
