About this work

An etched print titled Pig merchants by Jakob Smits shows a rural market yard with a crowd of figures in headscarves and caps gathered around a wooden cart and a hanging carcass. Several pigs root on the ground in the foreground beside a shed and a bare tree, with a church tower visible at the right edge. The sheet is mounted on cream card with a signature written in pencil at lower right.
