About this work

This etching, titled The wheelbarrow and attributed to Jakob Smits, shows a standing woman in a long dark dress and apron beside a seated man resting on a wheelbarrow beneath a large tree. A small windmill and farm building appear in the distance on the left, and the scene is rendered in fine, dense hatching. The sheet is mounted on a cream board with a handwritten inscription below the image.
