About this work
This painting shows an allegorical scene in which two female figures, one nude and one in a green gown, sit beneath a canopy of reddish autumn foliage beside a large stone urn. A dense crowd of men, women and a child gathers in the foreground, holding baskets of grapes, sheaves of wheat and a lamb, while a river and a distant church spire appear at the edges. The work is attributed to Gaston La Touche, is dated 1897, and is titled L'Allégorie de la Paix.
