About this work
Karl Hofer's painting Freundinnen, c1920, shows two nude women embracing closely against a blue, cloudy sky. The figures are rendered in bold, angular outlines with thick brushwork in yellow, orange, and ochre, while one wears a green garment and the other has dark hair, and foliage and a tree trunk frame the scene at the edges.
