About this work

This engraved plate shows three male portrait busts arranged on a single page, each labelled with a number and the names Jacob Appel, Dirk Dalens and Jan Wandelaar printed below. The sitters wear period wigs and 18th-century dress, and one wears a tricorn hat, while a cherub figure and drapery frame the composition. The print was made by Pieter Tanje after a design by Aert Schouman and dated 1751.
