About this work
A dense, richly colored composition of a migrating crowd on horseback, in ox-drawn carts, and on foot, crossing a yellow river on wooden rafts. Smoke rises from a burning settlement on a hilltop at the upper right, while a long column of riders and wagons winds across the ridges. The painting is titled Die Völkerwanderung and was made by Oskar Laske in 1928.
