About this work

A broad, hazy beach scene shows a small sailboat drawn up on the sand, with groups of figures in light summer clothing strolling and gathering near the shoreline. Pale, muted tones of sand, sea, and sky dominate the composition, and the painting is signed and dated 1893 in the lower right corner.
