About this work
A seated older man in a dark waistcoat and white shirt, with a red neckerchief, bends over his lap to mend a red and brown plaid cloth with a needle. The loose, wet washes and warm reds are set against a pale grey background, and the signature and date 1890 appear at the lower right. This is Vladimir Makovsky's 1890 work, Mending of the Robe.
