About this work
A dark, candlelit tenebrist scene shows a tense group around a stone table where a man in red sleeves and armor gestures over dice. An older bearded man in an orange cloak stands at left beside helmeted soldiers, while a woman in a white headscarf looks on with alarm. The table's base carries carved relief figures above a glowing brazier. Valentin de Boulogne painted this work, dated 1615, titled Denial of Saint Peter.
