About this work
A brig and a smaller cutter sail under billowing canvas across rough grey-green water, with a tall iceberg rising on the right and smaller ice floes on the left. Seabirds scatter over the iceberg while penguins or cormorants perch on dark rocks in the foreground. This print, created by Edward Duncan in 1823, records the voyage of the Jane and Beaufoy toward the southern polar region.
