A still life arranged on a pale stone ledge shows a cracked walnut with its shell halves, three dark plums, a bunch of pale green grapes, and a peach resting against a branch with leaves and a fly. The dark olive background sets off the fruit in soft, even light. The painting is signed Emilie Preyer and dated 1871 in the lower right corner.
