A calm sea stretches beneath a sky of rising cumulus clouds, with a large dark-hulled ship under furled and partly set sails at left. A sailing boat with orange and cream sails, carrying several figures, dominates the right foreground, while smaller vessels and a distant shoreline with a tower recede into the haze.
