About this work

A lunette-shaped painting in a classical arched frame shows a group of female figures, some nude and some draped in translucent fabric, dancing beneath a fruit-laden tree. A crescent moon hangs in the pale evening sky, while small cherubs appear in the upper corners and a reclining figure lies in the distance. This is William Etty's Hesperus, dated 1844, held in the Wikimedia Commons collection.
